A Canadian is fighting back in U.S. federal court over what he says is an attempt by the Department of Homeland Security, through Google, to seek “vast swaths of information” about his personal life following social media posts critical of Donald Trump’s administration.

The Canadian John Doe plaintiff on Monday sued Markwayne Mullin, the current DHS secretary, in a lawsuit that contends DHS is engaged in “a transparent gambit to chill speech the government doesn’t like.” The suit was brought by American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) offices in D.C., where DHS is located, and in northern California, the jurisdiction where Google has its headquarters.

Error one, this person was on the Nazi app. Error two, this person still actively checks his gmail account, I will not fault the guy for having one as I do to for keeping my youtube subscriptions that I use tools to block ads with.

My suggestion to everyone get onto the fediverse, let it be Lemmy, Mastodon, or whatever else, but I do not think I need to tell people that here. Self host as much as possible, then try self hosting some more, it has been actually quite fun I have found out.

I am critical of the US on my blog, CIRA has all my information but I am unaware if they have received any thing about me.

Can we not victim blame.

He is actively fighting Trump’s bullshit from our side of the border. That is to be supported.

Thank you for pointing out my errors, I have been having a very rough day today.

She’s not blaming the victim, she’s providing guidance to get off weaponized ustech. Not the same thing.

He starts by listing “errors”. That’s not guidance. That’s criticism.

Fair point but I was trying to say get of US tech, and I am a she just FYI.

Sorry I didn’t mean to assume.

Constructive Criticism

Thank you that was exactly what I (a woman fyi so she) was trying to do.

People need to seriously reconsider their digital footprint. Get paranoid! It’ll serve you well in the future.

In reality this is really tough to achieve as everybody is spying on you left and right. I’d say at best one can limit its footprint to some degree. Edit: on->one

Absolutely! You have to start somewhere. I think the first thing I did was to get off all social platforms (except for this one). Then de-Google.

There’s probably some room for a class-action suit, here. This guy is definitely not the only Canadian they’ve “investigated” like this.
