OpenAI backs an Illinois bill shielding AI labs from liability, even for “critical harms” like 100+ deaths or $1B+ in damage, if they published safety reports

For awhile I’ve been wondering when the first AI-caused mass casualty event would happen. I think it was probably when that school full of little girls got blown up in Iran. There should definitely be liability for absolutely anyone enabling such grave mistakes.
When it happens, it won’t be a specific event. It’ll be the collapse of infrastructures built on foundations that are simply not up to standard but were allowed to happen anyway. Whether that be economical, public medical, one of the many sciences, or all at once.
People will die and it’ll be tracked back to haphazard slop five years earlier.
Edit: No, not haphazard slop. Just some idiot that thought it was all magic at the time.
Is he participating in the Olympics for pieces of shit because he sure is going the extra mile to make a point.
LOL Of course this bastard would try to worm his way out of liability. As LLMs cannot be held responsible for any actions, since these hallucination engines cannot think or feel. However, OpenAI can and should be held liable when their product is directly responsible for causing something horrible to happen on both a small and critical scale. If they can create the “tech” they can accept responsibility when the shit goes south and causes a lot of destruction/loss of life.
Of course they do. Line must go up.
Lives, you say? I don’t think you understand how the economy works.
I hope Sam realizes humanity will remember him as just evil. I really hope they learn that before it’s too late
I wonder if that’s true. Two generations after his death, people are likely to remember the brands and buildings that still bear his name and assume he was a Good Guy.
In the same way that people do with, say, Edison, Ford and Rockefeller today. Rather than as the monstrous pieces of shit they were.
This this sounding more like Ted faro and if Hitler and Stalin were in a room and I had a gun id unload the clip on Ted and beat its corpse. Now im so angry just being reminded of that trash.
There must be only one reason so many people are willing to endorse his absolute bullshit: greed

Knowing reality is the most important thing there is to avoiding harm. If doing so is illegal, harm is inevitable.
The news that they won’t be building a data centre in the UK was amazing to me.
Fucking hate AI

If AI can’t even figure out how to make itself less resource intensive and destructive what are we even doing here?
Enriching the robber baron billionaires who own all the relevant corporations and politicians
Sounds like Sam didn’t get his fill of cocktails
